With all the exposes, rumors, innuendos, “leaks,” and information that the public hears about various politicians, is there any wonder that politicians are held in such low esteem? Although politicians were never the most respected professionals, it seems that today, the public holds politicians in the lowest esteem ever. Every report, poll, political discussion, talk show, etc., has some report or another about some scandal, impropriety or outright lie or dishonest act by some politician. Politicians that have come under attack for misconduct of some sort include: President Clinton, Vice President Cheney, Governor Sanford, Governor Spitzer, Governor Patterson, John Edwards, Congessman Rangel, and many others. The State of Connecticut, for example, has had numerous Governors removed or convinced to leave office because of public scandals, and both the former Governors of New York and New Jersey, left office prematurely because of certain indiscretions that were made public. Is there any wonder that the American public is so disgruntled with their elected officials, or that a movement such as the Tea Party, which basically has as its central belief to throw the “bums out,” has gained so much traction and popularity.

While there have always been incidents of political improprieties reported, in our technological, multi-media age, indiscretions are far more difficult to hide. Remember that both President Richard Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew were forced out of office by scandals, rumors abounded about the extra-marital escapades of former politicos such as Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Nelson Rockefeller, and even Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower, amongst many others. Let us not forget how pictures aboard a yacht impacted the political campaign of former Presidential candidate Gary Hart.

Why should the public trust politicians? Former Senator Charles Goodell perhaps explained politicians best when he said, “Politicians are like antelopes. When things get tough, they paint their behinds white and run with the crowd.” Until the public demands campaign rules changes, and requires our elections to be about issues and not personalities, we will continue to be disappointed. My only confusion about this is how the public can be disappointed in politicians when they think so little of them in the first place!

A politician’s personal life should be just that – personal – unless that aspect pervades into his ability to govern. While Bill Clinton’s personal life was certainly a distraction that was not helpful to his governing, he was still able to effectively lead this country. Imagine what he might have accomplished had he not been distracted?

The reality probably is that we should not expect the best person qualified to be elected President. The most qualified individual – one who is knowledgeable, honest, a true leader, disciplined, “tough” when he needs to be, a terrific negotiator, “sees the big picture” while being somewhat visionary, and can convince others to “do the right thing” instead of just politics as usual – would probably never want to run for the office. We need to change our political system, but since our politicians have not even been able to effectively lead regarding the economy, how can we expect major changes? That will only happen when the public really believes what was the most memorable line in the movie, “Network,” which was, “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it any longer.”

Article by Brad Carver

Crooked Politicians

Why do we sit idly by and let politicians run our country and our lives into the ground? Why do we sit and watch them sell off our country to foreign trade? Why do they do it? Don’t hey care at all about the people who voted for them? The answer to that question is a resounding NO. They only care about themselves and nothing more. And the reason we sit and watch them do it is because we don’t know what to do.

Politicians have a job where they don’t even have to show up for work if they don’t want to. They can give themselves a raise whenever they want to. They make the same salary when they retire as when they did when they were in Washington. And they make until the day they die. They ride to work everyday in a limousine. They get all kinds of perks for being a politician; perks that they voted themselves to have. They are so out of touch with reality they can’t see straight.

The problem is, we put them in power. The people who vote only do so for what’s on the outside, not what’s inside the politician. My sister voted for Bill Clinton because he reminded her of John Kennedy, nothing more. She had no idea where he stood on anything. He just reminded her of Kennedy, so she voted for him on that and that alone.

My cousin on the other hand didn’t vote for Bill Clinton because he thought he was gay. One thing Bill Clinton is not is gay. But both voted for the wrong reasons. Neither one of them had a clue about what Clinton stood for.

Ronald Regan got elected because he was an actor. Everyone knew him and that’s why they voted for him. They’ve seen him in the movies so he must be good. They fail to remember that his costar was a chimp and a much better actor than Regan. And they fail to remember that Regan is the one who trained Bin Laden. And we voted Regan the greatest American of all time.

Arnold got elected as governor of California because people in California actually thought they were getting the Terminator. He even talked like the Terminator while he was running, remember? People were mesmerized. They were sitting in the audience thinking, “Wow, we’re getting the Terminator.” So they elected him and then reality set in and they realized how stupid they were, too late now.

I have a friend who voted for George Bush because he, “Looked more like a president” than Al Gore.” That’s the only reason she voted for him. Now she’s sorry she ever voted.

If John Wayne was still alive and he ran for president he would get elected by a landslide. And he knew nothing about politics. But everyone knew John Wayne. He was a macho actor and he always won, so he must make a good politician.

We need for people to take a test before they can vote and if they don’t score 100, they can’t vote in any election. And politicians need to take a test too.

Every Senator every Congressman, every Representative of the House does great things for their state, but they do lousy things for their country. A Senator in NC got a tee pot museum built in a mountain city and because of that she got elected again. She also voted to give the oil companies a tax break and to give illegal immigrants amnesty. But that doesn’t matter. She gave NC a tea pot museum that cost tax payers about $ 3-million and the people of NC love her because of the tea pot museum. Bless her heart, if she has one.

I could go on ranting about this forever, but instead I’ll just stop and say, wake up America. We’re losing our country and it’s time we took it back from the crooked politicians who are bastardizing our country and its people.

It’s time for a revolution. It’s time that someone put up a website that lists each senator, congressman and representative of the house; what they voted for, how much the lobbyists gave then to vote that way and how many days they showed up for work. Then we can see for ourselves if they’re doing the job we elected them to do. And if they’re not, we can vote them out.

By now you’re no longer surprised that comic book writers, stories, and characters are being gobbled up by the movie industry. You’ve seen a ton of superhero and comic book characters in the movie theaters and on television. And not just the obvious stuff, but lesser known stuff like Frank Miller’s Sin City a few years ago, and more recently his take on 300. Maybe you’re even very observant and a comic book reader and recognize a few names as the credits roll. Like have you noticed comic book writer Jeph Loeb’s name, mostly known for his Spider-Man comics work, showing up on shows like Smallville, Lost, and Heroes? Or have you seen the name Brian Michael Bendis, current writer of the New Avengers comic, show up on the MTV version of Spider-Man?

Well that’s all well and good, but did you know it’s actually a two way street? Film makers are WRITING comic books these days too. Ever heard of a TV show called Firefly and it’s movie version Serenity? Or how about the show Angel? Surely you know Buffy the Vampire Slayer? All the work of Joss Whedon. But have you ever heard of the Runaways? Well that’s the comic book he’s writing for these days. Not to mention he’s also the current writer of Astonishing X-Men. And in the past he’s even done comic book versions of Buffy and Firefly.

These guys are stretched paper thin, but they LOVE comic books. You know the movie House Party? Directed by Reginald Hudlin? He’s RUNNING the whole BET network right now. But do you know what he finds to do? Write the Black Panther comic. He’s taken that underselling title and turned it into something BIG in the last year. He’s had the Panther get married to Storm of the X-Men, and that idea is so obvious I don’t know how I missed it.

Speaking of empires; ever watch that show Babylon 5? Well I used to get teeny-tiny acting jobs on it, and drive way up to Sun Valley for my little parts. Little did I know J. Michael Straczynski, the show’s creator, would one day be writing MULTIPLE Spider-Man titles. Plus Teen Titans, Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four, etc., etc., And he just brought THOR back to life!

Do I even need to mention Kevin Smith? He OWNS comic book stores. And the number of comic title’s he’s written for is LONG. That’s aside from his movies and involvement in TV, like Reapers his upcoming hand in “Heroes: Origins.” Another guy who’s name you might not know but who’s work you DO know is (Stanley Tucci look-alike) David S. Goyer. Probably the next movies you’ll see from him are The Invisible and Jumper which he penned not directed. But he’s been or will be involved in, the Blade movies, “Blade: The Series”, Ghost Rider, Magneto, The Flash, Batman Begins. Crazy right? Then of course there is the comic book work; JSA (Justice Society of America) which he writes with Geoffrey Johns.

Believe it or not lots of filmmakers are comic book fans. Can I take you back in time for a second? Way back in the old days of my life I had ONE single day acting work on NYPD Blue (it was actually the day I got into the union, SAG, but that’s an entirely different long story). And I was walking around the Fox lot (I think that’s where we were) and I spotted this small Asian man with a prominent facial mole. I ran back to my trailer to get a headshot of myself, and then followed the guy to his office. Knocked on the door and proceeded to meet with John Woo for about 10 minutes. He was had just finished editing his first big Hollywood flick, Face Off, and had some time on his hand. We talked about his penchant for dual characters, and the black and white suits (paging Tarantino) and the having characters simultaneously point guns at each. Main source of inspiration? Mad magazine’s Spy Vs. Spy.

‘Lying’ supposedly will get politicians impeached, then why hasn’t ninety-five percent ofpoliticians been impeached, sell them a one-way ticket to Gitmo, take all their assets to pay off thetrillions they’ve borrowed without Taxpayers consent? Six decades later and America is bankruptwith these ‘corrupt, greedy, lying bunch of ‘blood-sucking ticks’, still in office, still drawing bigsalaries and retirements, working on the same ‘programs/ healthcare’ for years. They have nothingbetter to do to justify the bigs bucks they steal from Taxpayers, as it’s obvious none of them knowwhat they’re doing nor care. This is why their favorite saying is “I’ll check on this and get back toyou!” This brings another thought to Taxpayers minds, if the Insurance, Drug companies,Hospitals, and Medical professionals stop ‘paying the politicians to run for office, maybe the’Politicians License to Steal’ will come to a screeching halt!

Politicians take billions from insurance, drug companies, healthcare professionals and what fewbusinesses are left. This is why Taxpayers can’t afford insurance, hospitals, let alone medications.Passing of Healthcare is another POWER GRAB and will finish bankrupting America. Fraud andbankrupting of social security, medicare and medicaid should tells folks that government runprograms have never worked for Taxpayers, just for Politicians!

Insurance and Drug companies should give their insured, that’s paid them big bucks for years, alltheir money back. Folks, the Taxpayer that’s paid $ 200.00 to $ 750.00 monthly, would be entitled toseveral million for each person. Just think, we wouldn’t need them at all! What fools we’ve beenletting these ‘blood-sucking ticks’ tell us that ‘Taxpayers have to spread the wealth around!’ Where is politicians ‘wealth they’re spreading around?’

Why would politicians want to spend billions of dollars taken from insurance, drug, hospitals andthe small business owners, to run for an office that pays $ 200,000.00+-?

“THINGS TO DO PRIORITY LIST” Taxpayers know time’s running out! Politicians shouldwork towards building a strong nation by starting with the following:

1] Eliminate property taxes! Tax and Spend Liberals are handing out monies that America no longer has for gambling. Losing manufacturing jobs hasn’t created stability! Taxpayers feel that excessive taxation, creating programs and government jobs that do nothing for America, has sent America into bankruptcy! 2] Eliminate public schools! Christian Schools are the only answer if you want to create stability! Why should Taxpayers support public schools that’s creating terror and gangs with no end in site? 3] Eliminate social and welfare programs! These programs haven’t and never will bring about morals, principles, integrity, or respect! They’ve only created more and more illegitimates that’s creating more terror and gangs on American soil! 4] Eliminate non-profit organizations! It’s a proven fact, these organizations are there only to collect Taxpayers monies. If they were doing anything for community, why are pregnancies, HIV/Aids, drugs, gangs, stealing, and murders, on the rise? 5] Eliminate Housing Projects! Taxpayers have seen millions wasted on projects and programs! Wake up – IT’S NOT WORKING! Daily on news programs, we see older folks wanting to clean up and rid their crime ridden neighborhoods of drugs, terror, gangs, rape, incest, and murder. Myself and many folks I talk with sincerely hope it’s not too late to solve the ills that’s been created by the politicians just so they can get elected! 6] Eliminate government positions! If politicians think by creating another “government” position, they’ve helped America, think again! If the politicians have nothing better to do than sit around and whatever pops from their minute brains (for instant – Clinton, Kennedy, John Edwards, just to name a few “We’re going to create a Healthcare for everyone in America” statement) gets made into a law/position, it’s time to send them all home on the first bus on their own dime! Taxpayers have stated for years there’s far too many chiefs! Here’s just a few problems: a] “Department of Transportation” spends money like to grows on trees, which brings about another point – there’s so much damage to environment by cutting trees, re-routing streams, etc. it’s no longer healthy for anyone! DOT spends so much of Taxpayers’ money uselessly creating bypasses that’s not needed, thus making an excessive debt America can’t afford! b] “National Board of Education” Nothing good will ever come from this, except more terror and gangs! All they have created is more job security for themselves. c] “Housing & Urban Development” should have never been created. All the HUD has created is destruction in America! d] “A common disaster was when government officials stated “We’ll give the farmers’ aid/loans, so American farms would remain intact” makes Taxpayers wonder what else the politicians know that Taxpayers don’t? 7] Incentives must be Eliminated! Too many companies are collecting Taxpayers monies. How are Taxpayers supposed to keep paying for their homes and upkeep? Thousands of jobs lost! Politicians should be held accountable for incentives, as they should know companies aren’t stable! 8] Eliminate Taxpayers money to Foreign Countries! You cannot promote stability in America if you continue to hand out Taxpayers money to foreign companies that’s taking jobs away from America. This practice must stop! 9] Eliminate Laws, Programs, & Taxes! You cannot keep ‘taking’ from the working man and ‘giving’ it to everyone else. This is causing major problems for Taxpayers who’s working their buns off just to pay their own way! 10] Common sense Laws must be passed! Politicians must use their own money to run for any type public office. Taxpayers see this as more corruption! The ‘big buck supporters’ want something or their hand wouldn’t be out, right? After all, nothing’s free!

A politicians’ comments – “All these problems and the need for social workers and retainingteachers, this is what I’m talking about” and “do you expect things to ever get better if youdon’t fund the schools properly?” What a pity we have such ignorance in our society.

Taxpayers know politicians are “part of the problem and not the solution”!

Article by Michael Nyleo

Politicians are public figures whom the community sees on TV, hears on the radio or sees in public places. They represent some parties, some interest groups or some movements that claim to do good for the society; politicians spend their lives fighting for the support of citizens, and sometimes they win it and become outstanding personalities in a country. How can one become a good politician, and is it really worth trying? What is the reality of being a politician? One should know everything about politics before diving into it.

Truth of Being a Good and Bad Politician.

1. The most attractive side of being a politician for every citizen is fame, prestige and power to change the world in which he or she lives. The community supports those politicians who are not indifferent to the destiny of their city, their state and their country, who fight for achieving welfare for the whole community and who are not afraid to engage in public debates and struggle for the recognition of some power’s drawbacks and pitfalls.

2. However, is it always so wonderful to be a politician? Do all politicians really correspond to their public image? There are many situations in which the politician who has recently been considered a respectable and well-bred one is engaged in a drug or blackmailing scandal, or even in a criminal case. The politician’s reputation is unstable and fragile, so in case he or she gives some pretext for prosecution, it will start immediately.

3. Finally, the minus of being a politician is that one becomes a public figure and he or she has no right for the private life, weaknesses or bad habits. In case he or she has them, it is necessary to conceal they as well as possible, as they will again be posed under the public consideration.

Promises, greed, avarice, whiskey and back door deals have it all over roses, late night talks, kisses and engagement rings. Politicians and corporate American lobbyists are in love and they have been living together so long their arrangement is as solid as any marriage.

As November elections grow near, however, politicians and lobbyists alike are wondering if their relationships will survive. After all, there is a lot at stake and they are tactfully haunting exclusive organizations everywhere. Womens’ groups, Latinos organizations, religious groups, special interest groups, people with a cause and nearly any organization can bet on being contacted by a politician or a lobbyist in their effort to sustain a relationship that has made them rich.

The dance with influential groups gives lobbyists a strategic advantage and helps incumbent politicians stay in office, thus the marriage remains alive. For the lobbyists successful re-election campaigns keep them inside of government processes and gives them the ability to provide valuable analysis, insights, and strategic advice to the companies they represent. They know how crucial it is to get their partners re-elected. Overall, politicians and lobbyists depend upon this financially viable relationship. The lobbyists get favorable legislation and the politicians get campaign contributions.nThe political landscape is wrought with incredibly complex proposals, ones that can mean millions and billions of dollars to the companies the lobbyists represent.

Take the health care debacle as an example. The insurance corporations knew there would be a grassroots movement to end corporate control of health care. Pharmaceutical companies, corporations, and even locally owned private practices fought to dissuade a national health care plan. Of course, for if it passed it meant that corporations in the health care field would have seen profits shrink.

Albeit corporations making forty percent profit envision a six percent drop as a loss, they are still earning a healthy thirty-four percent profit. Wall Street sees the missed margin and punishes the company with failing to meet projected earnings. Stakeholders cringe and push the politicians harder.

With the health care debate, politicians on both sides of the isle bemoaned the issue, knowing they had their own health care plan and therefore could afford to cut any proposals to pieces. The situation placed them in a darling position, for any reform passed wouldn’t impact them, as they have their own health care plan.

The epitaph of the health care disaster and any future reform is clear, for as long as politicians and lobbyists representing corporations are allowed to skulk behind closed doors legislation to change the present health care system will not change.

Other mega-corporations can attest to the separation consequences of the politician and lobbyist relationship. Enron, Qwest, Tyco International, Adelphia Communication Corporation, Halliburton, Arthur Anderson and others know the loss of such a relationship bodes bad news for the future of their organization. Once the relationship sours, contacts are lost. Those involved in decision making process are banned and the inner circle of contacts soon works against them. Being out of touch weakens the marriage and legislation is pushed and possibly passed without their input. Their influence on constituents sours and the loss of votes for their politician bed partners soon takes its toll.

Where does all the lobbying take us? Legislation meant to guarantee income for corporations means the American people pay and pay dearly. Americans foot the bill through taxes, retail pricing adjustments, higher premiums to insurance companies, and a higher cost of government services we don’t really need and should fight to eliminate. This mounting debt further impacts and endangers the future of our children and grandchildren. The economic disaster grows exponentially causing runaway debt and inflation that might lead to America’s default on a mountain of obligation so huge that the princess of the marriage will never feel the pea under all the mattresses. The pea represents our American way of life. It is in jeopardy.

The current marriage of politicians and lobbyists is not good for America. Lobbyist reform is needed. Access to the bedroom of politicians should be lessened so that inappropriate influence cannot impact political decisions. Educate yourself prior to the upcoming election, put pressure on incumbent politicians and wannabe political brides and grooms. Fight to restore common sense in government least we, as Americans, succumb and help consummate the imperfect marriage.

After ages of being led by politicians, we Kenyans should now break this unworthy chain of mentally deprived individuals who claim to be our leaders. The definition of a leader is not someone who occupies a public position; at least that is not it here in Kenya. We all elect leaders based on the one with the best lie we can believe in. Verbal games and diarrhea are the weapons they use to convince gullible citizens of the great things they will do once they are on the top position. I will not say that they disappear after being elected and emerge again during the election year, no; we see them everyday only that they have mastered the art of piling lie after lie and showing us how hard they have been working.

We are heading to yet another election that is fraught of controversies and defined by the many political parties that are tribal based. Our nation is healing from the unfortunate events of 2007/2008 and the dust has not yet completely settled. We all want leaders but we tend to fall for politicians who speak great things that they themselves cannot dream of. Being naive as we are, we all fall for their calculated lies ad end up electing a boatload of words as opposed to the leaders we all desire.

For instance, without mentioning names, why should you choose a presidential candidate who cannot control the instability in their party? Why choose presidential candidates who are on the line of being convicted? If you cannot control the people in your party, then you really need a lot of miracles to convince me that you will handle Kenya, its people and it’s wanting economy. If you are part of the reason why Kenya almost crumbled in 2007/2008, why in the world should I trust your leadership qualities.

A leader is an individual hungry for change and development all aimed at benefiting all Kenyans. Albeit it is quite difficult to find a leader in this current age where everyone is driven by the hunger for power, there are a few people who can qualify to be great leaders. Let us look at a few qualities of a leader and compare them with what politicians are:

A leader is a person of integrity, politicians are corrupt-minded individuals filled with manipulative language geared towards their own survival. Just look at the news today and tell me whether the nonsense you hear is from a qualified leader. The problem with our people is that we all like the drama that comes with politicians; to us, politicians bring the spark on the news and we all look at leaders as boring figures. What we cast a blind eye on is that politicians will always talk and not walk; leaders might not have the spark and the buzz we all feed our drama crave on but they sure walk more than they can talk. Politicians have nothing to say but they still say it anyway.

A leader is result oriented; a politician bases all their arguments on the great things they will do and the ‘many’ they have done. A leader may not necessarily tell you what they have done but their work will speak out loud on their behalf. A politician will entertain you with nonsense only that they are diverting your attention so that you will never realize that they are doing a lot of nothing and stealing the tax payer’s money; your money.

A leader is a national individual; politicians are tribal and believe that they are doing everything for their people. We are tired to listening to the same bunch of stupid tribalism remarks, “My people must be represented”. It is not that we should ignore our tribes, we should ignore the differences that exist between us and act as one people. We can never have 42+ presidents and thus we should shun the urge to have a president that represents one tribe.

A leader leads; a politician argues. Well, going with the current problems that have been depicted by the different disagreements in parties, you can now know who cannot lead a country. One of the main presidential aspirant bases his leadership on politics: If you do not agree with his way then you have no way around him. Sooner or later, he has to learn that our nation is not a football match and there is no time to gamble with the lives of Kenyans. Some presidential aspirants are just not worth our trust after what happened during and after the last election. The best thing we can do is to change our political state of mind and select a leader who will lead us and sacrifice his time and energy for the bettering of this nation; not one who sacrifices his people for his own good.

Its time we chose a leader over a politician after all, we can have drama all by ourselves. Let a leader be a leader, not an entertainer, we have a sufficient number of those. Chose a leader for what they are not what they say they will be. A good leader is one that has a vision that is already becoming a reality and just to mention a few names; Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth, and Raphael Tuju. These are leaders, but this is only my opinion (to which am entitled) after looking at their political career and the vision they have. Most of the others are just public noise makers with nothing more than nonsensical speeches and one hit wonder dramas to offer.

The media should refrain from making our political leaders celebrities because they are not. Most of them gather support by unethical utterances that incriminate their political rivals which mostly are from a different tribe.

Let us all unite and make a choice we will not regret later. Chose a leader, politicians are full of it, I know you know what I mean. Let he who has a loud mouth be one with long legs to walk the distance equal or greater than his/her talk.
